Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disease in which the immune system mistakenly attacks the body’s own tissues, leading to widespread inflammation and tissue damage in various organs. It can affect the skin, joints, kidneys, brain, heart, lungs, and blood cells. The exact cause of SLE is not fully understood, but a combination of genetic, environmental, hormonal, and immunological factors is believed to contribute.
